Officer involved in the death of Breonna Taylor indicted for wanton endangerment, grand jury decision met with protests across the country "Even though there is not a clear subject, the entire crowd is the subject, this image is the only true “news” photo entered. The image is sharp and cropped well." |
Second PlaceMichael Pieper: Delta College
"This photo, although a bit out-of-focus, is second place because it shows peak action and the interaction between the opposing sides. The image could be made better by cropping most of the left and right out. I would crop at the back of the guy’s feet (the player in the air) and on the right side I would crop just beyond the left hand of the defender, leaving the top to bottom alone. Tightening down the crop would allow the viewer a more dramatic image." |
Third PlaceJulie Newell: Lansing Community College
Rim Rocker "The subject is clear, the slam dunk is at its peak moment, however the other players are not involved in the photo. The difference between the second and third place photos is the interaction of the subject with the defenders. A good sports action photo achieves one of two things; it’s either very tight showing emotion or it has conflict between athletes, this is neither tight of shows the interaction." |
